Shamira has woven a rich pattern of danse orientale experiences through studies, performances and teaching in the U.S. and in several countries. Her unique dance style embodies an ethnic cross-cultural perspective of Egyptian, Turkish, Greek, Armenian, Lebanese, and several additional cultures from the Near & Middle East. Currently an I.A.M.E.D. (International Academy of Middle Eastern Dance) member, Shamira's training has been through a blend of many wonderfully talented and knowledgeable instructors across the United States, Europe and the Middle East. Her dance philosophy and personal performing technique was carefully guided by her dance mentor Bert "Roman" Balladine. A founding member of the Tri-State M.E.D.A. Shamira was also a soloist with the Near East Dance Theatre of Boston. Both a featured instructor in workshops as well as a seminar sponsor, she and Amaya co-sponsored the 2004 Pineapple Shake & Bake Dance Festival in Honolulu. Shamira founded the Amara Kismet Near & Middle East Dance Ensemble in 2003 and produced two highly successful theatre productions under the umbrella of "Belly Dance and Beyond" (Hawaii's premier theatrical production of Near & Middle East music and dance) June of 2005 and again in June of 2006 at the Paliku Theatre in Kaneohe, Hawaii. Both productions were resounding successes with sold out houses, standing ovations, and multitudes of compliments and encouragement by well wishers in support of the resulting DVD "Jasmina & the Jansher" (released for purchase at this link). Studies of the music, languages and customs of each culture have enabled Shamira to bring a sense of dignity and grace to the belly dance arena. Her particular attention to understanding of values and traditions are the foundation to showcasing each of the cultures that celebrate their music and poetry through danse orientale. Shamira's classes and ties to the oriental dance community provide opportunities for belly dancing enthusiasts to continue their studies and personal dance growth while visiting or living in Hawaii. July 8, 2008 Shamira will begin a new set of Shamira Technique® classes at the Nix Performance Arts Center in Aiea, Hawaii. Classes include:
