Kane aki Heiau |

The Kane aki Heiau is located on the Makaha side of O'ahu. Tucked back into the hillside mauka of the Farrington Highway, it is well worth getting past the guard at the gate and the very short trek into the woods to visit. On the way in, we saw a gorgeous peacock, who seemed to be checking us out to see if we were worthy to continue on our path.
During our visit, a caretaker of this heiau brought one of his family members (we assumed - may have been a student or a friend) to the heiau. He chanted on the way up to this platform, entered the hale pule (prayer house) and they spent some quiet time in there. We quietly walked around the perimeter (there are signs indicating specifically that we were not to enter) and took some nice photos, read the informational signs.
One of the signs read: "Kane aki Heiau - This site is sacred to the Hawaiian people. Please show respect. Do not move, remove or wrap the rocks. Stay on the path and off the fragile rock walls. Preserve Hawai'i's past for the future...."
As we made our departure, we were filled with awe and wonder.
